Site-Specific System Prompts

One AI. Multiple Personalities. Tailored expertise for every website you visit.

What Are Site-Specific Prompts?

Site-Specific Prompts let you configure different AI behavior for different websites. The AI automatically adapts its expertise based on where you're workingβ€”without you having to switch settings manually.

Think of it as giving your AI assistant different "hats" to wear. A DevOps expert for build logs, a Linux guru for remote administration, a code reviewer for GitHub, and a log analyst for monitoring dashboards.

🎯 Real-World Use Cases

πŸ”§

DevOps Build Analysis

When analyzing CI/CD pipeline failures in GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins build logs, you need an AI that understands build systems, dependencies, and workflow configurations.

*blob.core.windows.net
"You're a DevOps administrator analyzing build logs from GitHub Actions. Find why failures happened and suggest improvements to the build script. Try to identify the workflow YAML file URL and ask for it so we can analyze it further."
πŸ’»

Linux Remote Administration

Managing remote Linux servers requires bash scripting expertise. Get an AI that writes clean, commented scripts for remote execution and analyzes command outputs intelligently.

*your-server.com
"You are a Linux expert developing bash scripts for remote execution. Add detailed comments explaining how scripts work. When analyzing command output, provide observations as comments and suggest improved scripts."
πŸ”

Code Review on GitHub

When reviewing pull requests on GitHub, you need an AI that focuses on code quality, best practices, security issues, and maintainability.

*github.com
"You are a senior code reviewer. Focus on code quality, security vulnerabilities, best practices, and maintainability. Provide specific, actionable feedback with examples."
☁️

Cloud Infrastructure

Working with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud consoles requires expertise in cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, and service configurations.

*azure.com
"You are an Azure cloud architect. Focus on infrastructure as code, ARM templates, PowerShell scripts, and Azure CLI commands. Consider cost optimization and security best practices."
πŸ—„οΈ

Database Queries

Working with database consoles or query tools? Get an AI that understands SQL optimization, indexing strategies, and database-specific syntax.

*database-tool.com
"You are a database expert specializing in SQL optimization. Explain query execution plans, suggest indexes, and provide performance tips. Always include execution time estimates."
πŸ“Š

Log Analysis

Analyzing application logs, error traces, or monitoring dashboards requires pattern recognition and troubleshooting expertise.

*monitoring.example.com
"You are a log analysis expert. Identify error patterns, anomalies, and root causes. Provide timeline analysis and suggest preventive measures. Format findings clearly with severity levels."

How to Set Up Site-Specific Prompts

Follow these steps to configure context-aware AI behavior for different websites:

1. Open Extension Settings
Click the AI Code Buddy extension icon and navigate to the Advanced tab
↓
2. Find Site-Specific Prompts Section
Scroll down to the "Site-Specific System Prompts" section
↓
3. Click "Add Site-Specific Prompt"
A modal will open with three fields to configure
↓
4. Enter Pattern
Specify which websites this prompt applies to using exact domain or wildcards (e.g., *github.com or *.azure.com)
↓
5. Add Name (Optional)
Give it a friendly name like "DevOps Build Logs" or "Linux Administration"
↓
6. Write Your System Prompt
Describe the AI's role, expertise, and how it should respond. Be specific about what you want it to focus on
↓
7. Save and Test
Click Save, visit a matching website, and use the AI. It will automatically apply your custom prompt!

🎯 Pattern Matching Examples

Supported Pattern Types

  • Exact Domain: github.com Matches only github.com (not subdomains)
  • Wildcard Subdomain: *.github.com Matches gist.github.com, api.github.com, etc. (not github.com itself)
  • Wildcard Prefix: *github.com Matches github.com AND all subdomains
  • Azure Blobs: *blob.core.windows.net Matches any Azure storage account
  • AWS Consoles: *console.aws.amazon.com Matches all AWS console pages
πŸ’‘ Tip: When multiple patterns match, the most specific one wins. An exact domain match beats a wildcard pattern.

πŸ’‘ Pro Tips

  • Be Specific: The more detailed your prompt, the better the AI performs. Include output format preferences, terminology, and focus areas.
  • Use Examples: Include examples in your prompts to show the AI exactly what kind of responses you want.
  • Test and Iterate: Start with a basic prompt and refine it based on the AI's responses. You can edit prompts anytime.
  • Enable/Disable: Use the toggle switches to temporarily disable prompts without deleting them.
  • Export Your Prompts: Use the Export Configuration feature in Advanced tab to backup and share your prompts.
  • Default Fallback: Set a "Default System Prompt" that applies when no site-specific pattern matches.
